Barbell Bent-Over Row

The barbell bent-over row is an effective compound exercise that targets the muscles of the back, including the lats, traps, and rhomboids. It also engages the biceps, forearms, and core muscles to stabilize the body during the movement.

Position

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a barbell with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.

Movement

  • Bend at the hips and knees to lower your torso until it is almost parallel to the floor, keeping your back straight and core engaged.
  • Pull the barbell towards your lower chest by retracting your shoulder blades and bending your elbows.
  • Lower the barbell back down to the starting position with control.

Breathing

Exhale as you pull the barbell towards your chest and inhale as you lower it back down.

Tips

  • Keep your back flat and core engaged throughout the exercise to prevent rounding or arching.
  • Focus on pulling with your back muscles rather than using momentum to lift the weight.
  • Avoid shrugging your shoulders or swinging the weight to complete the movement.
