Position

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and the barbell on the floor in front of you.

Movement

  • Bend at the hips and knees to lower your torso and grip the barbell with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  • Engage your core and back muscles as you lift the barbell by extending your hips and knees until you are standing upright.
  • Lower the barbell back down to the floor with control, keeping your back flat and core engaged.

Breathing

Exhale as you lift the barbell off the floor and inhale as you lower it back down.

Tips

  • Keep your back flat and core engaged throughout the exercise to prevent rounding or arching.
  • Focus on lifting with your legs and back muscles rather than using your arms to pull the weight.
  • Avoid jerking or rounding your back during the movement to prevent injury.
