Dumbbell Overhead Press

The dumbbell overhead press is a shoulder exercise that targets the deltoid muscles. It is performed by pressing a pair of dumbbells overhead from shoulder height to full extension.

Position

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a dumbbell in each hand by your sides with your palms facing in.

Movement

  • Raise the dumbbells to shoulder height, then press them overhead until your arms are fully extended.
  • Lower the dumbbells back to shoulder height under control.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower the dumbbells to shoulder height and exhale as you press them overhead.

Tips

  • Keep your core engaged and your back straight throughout the movement to maintain proper form.
  • Avoid arching your back or using momentum to lift the weights, as this can strain the lower back.
