Dumbbell Rear Delt Fly

The dumbbell rear delt fly is an isolation exercise that targets the rear deltoids, or the back of the shoulders. It helps to improve shoulder strength and stability, as well as posture and overall shoulder health.

Position

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a dumbbell in each hand by your sides with your palms facing in.

Movement

  • Bend at the hips to bring your torso parallel to the floor, keeping your back flat and core engaged.
  • Raise the dumbbells out to the sides until they are at shoulder height, then lower them back down under control.

Breathing

Inhale as you raise the dumbbells and exhale as you lower them back down.

Tips

  • Focus on using your shoulder muscles to lift the weights, rather than relying on momentum or other muscles for assistance.
  • Avoid swinging the weights or using excessive momentum to lift them, as this can reduce the effectiveness of the exercise.
